The NCMF Board of Directors have designed a new category for performers to compete in this year. It is called "Golden Oldie Country Song of the Year". The country song needs to be from 1980 and prior to qualify. All ages, all divisions, compete against each other and will be considered 1 country song in the competition. The trophy awarded will be equal to "Entertainer of the Year". Our theme this year is "Keepin' it Country" so a new category such as this will coincide with the theme this year. We hope several of you enter this category! "Focus on the Youth" annual competition/fundraiser is
scheduled Sunday June 8, 2008 at Clay Center Legion, Clay Center NE. Sign in
time will be 5:00 and competition starts at 6:00. There will be food availiable.
This competition will be for youth 12 and under and teens 13-19. We will award
1st & 2nd in both age groups. Contestants do not have to be a member of NCMF.
There will be a $5.00 per person stage fee to compete. Mike's Music Service will
be providing the Karaoke! Come and enjoy the afternoon & evening with us! OUR SYMPATHY GOES OUT TO BETTY CHAPPELLE, and the family & friends of Vincent Chappelle who was the drummer for the Willie Harris Gospel Singers from Chicago. We received word that Vincent passed away this month. The Willie Harris Gospel Singers were inducted into the NCMF Hall of Fame in 1999 and brought excitement and inspiration to our annual festivals for many years. You are in our thoughts and prayers. The Nebraska Country Music Foundation held their membership
drive fundraiser April 6 hosted at the Sutton American Legion. Everyone had a
great time, and enjoyed hamburgers & french fries donated by Ron & Leota Griess. We are proud to have 2 new members this month Jeff Hankins from Juniata & Jessica Hinkel from Hastings. Welcome both of you to the NCMF! We hope to have a great turnout at our "Focus on the Youth" talent search that will be held June 8 at the Clay Center American Legion 5:00 PM sign in. Competition will be for youth 12 & under, and teens 13-19. Everyone welcome to attend. Membership not required to compete. Food will be available! See all of you there! CHANGE OF VENUE: The NCMF Board of Directors is proud to announce we will have a change of venue in our Festival 'kick off' this year. We have decided it is in the best interest of the Nebraska Country Music Foundation to have our 'kick off' October 12 and October 13 hosted at the Hastings VFW Club (Veterans of Foreign Wars) instead of holding it at the Hastings Eagles Club. The VFW is a wonderful facility and the atmosphere and employees are kind and friendly. They will have food available and have opened their doors and welcomed us to their establishment. The address of the Hastings VFW is 1053 Wabash Avenue, Hastings NE. Announcement will be in the next newsletter. We will move to the Adams County Fairgrounds on Tuesday October 14-18, 2008, as scheduled for the rest of the week activities.
